| I personally think its a joke, how the hell can they do that to the Greek people?Oh well, sort weights on the whole "dispose of the hellenic race " conspiracy...come on it does a little. The Parliament’s Plenary Session voted for in principle the bill on the protection of personal data and the confidentiality of phone conversations the Ministry of Justice compiled. Justice Minister Anastasios Papaligouras underlined that the new provisions further protect privacy and the confidentiality of phone conversations, and set out norms for the protection of the confidentiality and safety of transactions in business conversations. Moreover, Mr Papaligouras did not rule out the merger between ADAE (Hellenic Authority for the Information and Communication Security and Privacy) and the Hellenic Data Protection Authority, arguing that most countries have a joint Authority. Earlier, PASOK’s rapporteur Sokratis Kosmidis had claimed that the bill aims to achieve a compromise between the two Authorities, which are on dispute over their jurisdictions. However, it will not solve the problem, he said. KKE’s rapporteur Vera Nikolaidou spoke of a drive to infringe people’s rights and legalise electronic record-keeping. SYN rapporteur Fotis KOuvelis said the provisions lack essence and voiced his grave concerns over the violation of people’s rights worldwide. Wrangling over Wiretapping Scandal The dispute between the ruling party and PASOK’s parliamentarian’ also centred on the wiretapping scandal and the alleged abductions of Pakistanis. PASOK parliamentarian Evangelos Venizelos was the first to touch on the issue, defending ADAE’s role and dropping hints, implying a deliberate delay of the bill. Mr Venizelos’ claims triggered off Mr Papaligouras’ response. He called PASOK’s allegations speaking of cover-up unacceptable, and added that the Government itself fell prey to the wiretapping scandal. On his part, ND’s parliamentarian spokesman Mr Magginas blasted PASOK for exploiting both the phonetapping case and the abductions in an unacceptable political fashion, proving it is incapable of exercising opposition.
